Sending this message to the US will make Americans think about who they vote for next at the mid terms and at the end of the current term (if there is one).
Supply chains are complex and making some of these choices is not that simple and the site provides this information where it can. For example not eating McDonalds will reduce income and profit but will also impact UK jobs provided. US Administration announced global tariffs yesterday. Alongside steel, aluminium and cars (25% tariff start 3/4/25) already attracting new tariffs from the US, these additional tariffs of 10% are applied to all UK products. The tariffs will apply from 5/4/25.
This will affect you as any company that exports products to the US will now attract a 10% tax on top. This will most likely be passed onto consumers.
How will this affect you? This will have the effect of slowing up the UK economy as fewer of our products and services are bought by Americans.
Also its expected the dollar with strengthen against the pound making import prices of US good more expensive in the UK. So costs for UK products that use US goods and materials will be more expensive for us.
This is not small stuff, we export £182 Billion to the US. That supports a lot of jobs.
The economy will slow down. People will lose jobs. As the tariffs which vary by country are applied globally, the global economy will slow down - so other countries that we trade with will also buy less UK products.
One other impact, counter to what Trump says and most counter productive is that investment and innovation will slow so it will take a long time for companies to start making long term decisions because of the uncertainty that this introduces.
Final point on tariffs - the only countries that didn't attract tariffs? Russia, North Korea and Belarus. America is now firmly in a dictators club.
You can help by not buying US products and buying UK products. Or buy products from countries that are also affected most by US aggression and policies such as Canada (tariffs and annexation aggression) and Greenland (tariffs and annexation aggression).
